There are many reasons to learn how to knit. Of course, you can save money by making certain items instead of buying them pre made at the store. You can make exactly what you want in the colour you want it. You can even make money from selling your items on the Internet and at craft fairs. But probably the best reason to start knitting is simply because it is a great past time. It is fun and relaxing. If you join a knitting club you can even incorporate socialising with your past time. But those who have never knitted before may be scared to start but there are plenty of knitting patterns for beginners and beginner tips you can incorporate.

Baby steps to start off

While you may have visions of cable knit sweaters and intricate patterns, when you are beginning you should start small. This way you will not get frustrated and you can get your feet wet learning the basic stitches. Do not get overly ambitious. You can find an easy knitting pattern and follow that, so you can get comfortable with the basics before moving on to something more complicated. Make sure you completely read the instructions before starting out and gather all the materials you will need so you do not have to stop mid project.

Don’t improvise, follow the instructions

You may find knitting patterns for beginners that look good but you want to modify them slightly. Do not do this because you will likely get frustrated with the end result. Instead, follow the instructions carefully. Make the gauge to see the size of the needles you need to use. Do not skip this step because it will ensure your project is completed successfully and will give you valuable practice. Use the material suggested. If the easy knitting pattern calls for a particular type of yarn, make sure you use that. You can play around with substituting yarns when you are more experienced. Until then, substituting yarns may mean an uneven stitch or you may find the gauge is incorrect. Use a row counter so you do not lose track of how many rows you stitch. Also, always purchase yarn from the same dye lot so you do not see any variations in colour.

Practice makes perfect

Make a few smaller projects until you get really comfortable with all the steps. Once you are, you can start taking on larger projects. You can use gauges for a variety of useful things around the home. Potholders, coasters, trivets and even patchwork throws can be made form the gauges you make while practicing. Many baby items such as blankets and baby hats are good starter projects plus they make nice gifts. You can start out practicing on various easy patterns and then make a fun project from all your beginner gauges to memorialise your work. Once you have completed this you will be ready for some more complicated work and you will have set some good knitting habits.

There are many different baby knitting ideas you can use and blankets are the perfect gift giving solution.

Anyone who has a friend or family member expecting in the near future is bound to need a baby shower gift eventually. Consider giving a unique gift instead of the same tired baby items that are typically given. The best gifts are those that are special and handmade, a personalised item is always appreciated. An outfit that was hand made from a baby knitting pattern fits this perfectly. Not only will you have a great gift for the new baby but it will also be less expensive. You can enjoy your time creating it and the recipient will have a beautiful outfit.

A gift of the craft and finished product

One way you can really give a unique gift is to incorporate the craft with the finished product. This way the mum-to-be can complete her own knitting projects. You can package several knitting patterns for baby along with some needles and a few skeins of wool. Choose pastel colours of pink, blue, yellow and green so the mom to be can create her own outfits for the baby. She can pass the time while the new baby is sleeping by creating booties, blankets, hats and sweaters. This is both practical and relaxing. Accompany the gift with your own finished project. The time and thought will certainly be appreciated.

Ideas for baby projects

There are many different baby knitting ideas you can use. Blankets are the perfect gift giving solution. The new baby will need several of them and the fact it was hand made will make it valuable and a life long heirloom. Baby blanket knitting patterns come in a variety of styles. Whether you are an expert knitter or a novice, this is a great gift. If the new mom is a beginning knitter, it’s also a wonderful starter project. In addition to blankets, though, you can make diaper covers, booties, sweaters, hats and mittens. You can even make accessories for the baby’s room and decorate using knitted pieces.

Knitting patterns for baby, the economical choice

When you go shopping for baby items you may be surprised at how expensive some things are. However, for a fraction of the cost you can make several different gifts for baby. The only cost is your time and as all knitters know, knitting is a lot of fun. So, you can indulge in a favoured past time while creating a lovely, hand made gift from a baby knitting pattern. The mum-to-be will greatly appreciate the effort you put into the gift but you won’t have to spend a lot of money on it. While you are giving an economical gift, though, it will be special simply because it is hand made. You will have a special gift that will be cherished through generations, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the craft of knitting and you will have save money. So, if you have a baby shower coming up, consider knitting a hand made gift.

Relaxing on a sun drenched beach is a top holiday pastime, but it’s often confined to the tourist heavy peak seasons. For those seeking some winter sunshine, or perhaps looking to get away from the crowds and save a bit of cash at the same time, out of season holidaying is the answer. It doesn’t have to involve travelling half way across the globe either. There’s a good variety of year-round destinations waiting to be discovered closer to home, where warm weather and some great cheap hotels can be found.

The Canaries

The Canary Islands are a top choice for year round sun-worshipping. Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote are the most commonly visited islands and all offer dazzling coastlines and varying degrees of action and adventure. Each enjoys a warm and dry climate with well over 300 days of sunshine a year. Temperatures usually remain comfortably over 20°C so the concept of peak season has been slightly distorted here.

November to mid-December and April to June – avoiding Easter – are good times to enjoy fewer crowds and low prices, whether you’re seeking self catering apartments in Lanzarote or luxury hotels in Tenerife.

Egypt

For something completely different head to the Land of the Pharaohs, Egypt. The country is packed full of both desert and sea treats making a visit well worthwhile. Peak season runs between October and May so to avoid crowds choose June or September.

Maximum temperatures in Cairo average over 30°C during these months so be prepared to take it easy. Heading to the coast will help you to keep cool. Sharm el Sheikh on the Red Sea a popular choice. Go out of season and you will find plenty of Sharm el Sheikh hotels offering comfortable accommodation at a reasonable price.

Cyprus

Cyprus is a good early spring option thanks to its favourable Mediterranean climate. Peak season runs from June to September, so avoid these months to experience the slightly quieter side of the isle.

Visit in April and May and you can enjoy average maximum temperatures of 22°C and 26°C respectively while you laze on the beach, explore historic sites or indulge in some of the country’s delicious cuisine. Temperatures remain high into October and November, but heavier rainfall makes these months a less appealing choice so avoid them if you want to get the best mix of affordable Cyprus hotels and good weather.

I’m based in Cheshire and cover the whole of the county and the North Staffordshire area. My contemporary and children’s murals at www.kidswallmurals.co.uk are an exciting and original alternative to wallpaper as well as a cost effective solution to re-decorating a room.

Whether it’s to theme a nursery, update a child’s room or enhance a living space, you can have any style or design, tailored to suit your specific taste and budget.

The Design

As an experienced muralist, all of my murals are drawn free hand with no stencilling or projections involved. This allows me to transfer your ideas directly onto the wall with no scale or design restriction. I can work to all scales and budgets, producing either simple colourful wall murals to enhance a style of room – or completely theme a room in intricate detail. No project is too large or too small, and every project is treated with the same personal care and attention. When producing an interior scheme I can either translate your specific ideas directly or if you would prefer I can produce imaginative design creations for you. You may already have a room decorated and decide you want to take details from a border, curtains or duvet cover and create a mural to finish the room off.

The Price

There are a number of factors to consider that will determine the price of any given mural. The size of the mural, the detail, the wall texture and whether or not there is a ceiling involved – all have an impact on the costs. Prices start from as little as £65.00, so please use my contact page or phone me directly to arrange for a free consultation or guide price over the phone.

I am a fully qualified designer specialising in hand painted murals for interiors. I have always been creative and started painting murals when I was 14 in my own bedroom and then I found all of my friends wanted one. I went on to University and qualified with a Ba Hons in Design – Surface Pattern.

I worked as a designer for commercial companies but when I had my first child I decided that the nursery just had to have a Winnie The Pooh themed mural. As friends started to see my son’s room – my mural business began and it is the most rewarding and satisfying of jobs I have ever done.

As well as painting murals in people homes I have also been commissioned to produce murals for the National Health Service and other commercial properties, which have been featured in the local press.

Following our initial contact by phone, I would arrange to come and meet with you to view the room you intend to have the mural painted in. We would talk through your ideas, and at this stage if you needed inspiration I would also bring along ideas, pictures, and books to look at. For children’s rooms, every child has a favourite cartoon character, theme, TV character or book so this would be our starting point. If your child is old enough I always like to ask what they would like to see in their room so we make sure the mural makes everyone happy.

Once you have decided on the size and design of the mural that’s when I can provide you with an exact cost. My price is always inclusive of all materials and time – so no matter how long it takes me to complete the mural – the price will remain exactly as quoted (prices start from as little as £65).

When I come to paint the mural – the whole design is sketched out on the wall, ceiling or cupboard etc. in pencil first, and it is at this stage that I always make sure the client is completely happy with how the design looks before any painting begins – as once the design is painted changes are hard to make!

Your custom hand painted mural can usually be finished within a few days depending on size and detail level. The paints I use are waterproof and non-toxic and are therefore ideal to be used around children and babies.

Pictures, albums and home video may be the only way children ever know they even participated in trick or treating as a baby. Who are we kidding? We all know the fun of baby’s first Halloween or two is more for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and siblings. Here are some suggestions for saving money on baby’s first trick or treat experience as well as safety tips to make the night as fun as it can be.

Be Frugal with Baby’s First Halloween Costume

The first Halloween costume should be special, but that doesn’t mean it has to break the bank? Before you go crazy spending out of your budget for a Halloween outfit for baby, try networking with other parents. Many parents save their own children’s first costumes. They may be open to swapping costumes with you or willing to sell their little one’s old costume at a minimal cost. If this isn’t an option for you and you find you need to purchase your baby’s costume, there are lots of children’s thrift stores and boutiques that carry precious Halloween outfits in the month of October. Another option for making sure baby’s first costume is cute and inexpensive outfit is to check eBay.

Safety Tips to Keep Baby’s Safe and Sound

• Pass On Inhibiting Costume Items

Babies do not like to wear masks and most will fight and cry in discomfort if you put them in costumes that restrict their movements.

• Avoid Scary Masks and Costumes

Don’t be surprised if older babies are frightened by other people’s masks and costumes as well. This is not a time to instill fear into your baby. Sometimes adults and older children find it funny to show babies “the ropes” without realizing they can inadvertently scare infants.

• Keep Weather Conditions in Mind

When choosing your costume, keep in mind what your weather will most likely be that time of year. In the northern part of the U.S., it is not unusual for children to wear coats over their costumes. The more south you go, you may have children overdressed in 80 degree weather. That adorable fur bear or lion outfit may not be the most comfortable outfit for baby if you live in an area that’s still a bit warm on Halloween. Don’t over or undress baby.

• Give Family & Friends a Call Ahead Before Visiting

You have special people in your life that you’ll want to share baby’s first Halloween with. A phone call ahead to these people to be sure they are going to be home will help ensure that pictures (or videos) of baby with this special someone can be taken. Try and make your plans up to a week ahead. You don’t want to be disappointed later when trying to scrapbook your child’s first trick or treat experience and someone is missing.

Celebrate Baby’s First Halloween Again and Again

Just like every other first for your little one, you’ll want to keep record of his or her first Halloween with pictures, video and other keepsake items. One way you can do this is by creating a scrapbook that will preserve these items for years to come. Get creative in how you layout your album. Don’t be afraid to take pictures with props that symbolize the holiday and the season. Hay bails and pumpkins are just a few ideas; you can also check with your local craft store for other embellishments such as stamps, stencils and more.

Memories are something we all have. With some extra care and planning, Halloween and your baby’s first trick or treat experience can be most memorable for everyone involved. Who knows, that adorable first Halloween costume might find its way into the senior year book later.

No matter what costume you choose or how you remember the day, keep the tips and suggestions above in mind for a safe, happy and fun Halloween.

It used to be called a confinement. A woman was pregnant but it was improper to appear so in public. All that has certainly changed. Indeed, being pregnant and adding girth is a part of life. It is natural and nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, many ladies and couples want to record the special time when junior was on the inside sticking out. Here are some tips to make maternity shots memorable.

First, get the picture at the right time. If you are going to hire a professional, then the best time to schedule the appointment is during your 30th week. The belly is rounded and protruding enough to highlight without being so close to birth that you could miss it.

Point two, try some creativity. Take some outside shots if the weather is warm. Indoor photos are best without a flash for the shadows highlight the subject, the belly! If the lighting is not enough, then stand by a window or accent the belly with artificial lighting.

Include the whole family in some shots. After all, older siblings are part of the family. They could all be touching Mom’s abdomen or frame her in the middle of the group. Children like to act up and get attention so, if you hire a photographer, be sure they are good at getting the kids to cooperate, to be serious but not too serious.

If you are going to leave your abdomen covered, wear tight clothing. Get out the tank tops or shirts that fit six months before. These will highlight the changes that have taken place during these thirty weeks. Some woman want their bare belly showing in the picture. This can be done discreetly with proper clothing. Don’t wear something that would make you hide the picture after the birth.

When planning the picture, look forward and look around. First, look around to be sure that your background is what you want. If something is there you don’t want recorded, either move to a different location or cover it with a sheet.

Secondly, look ahead. It may be the person who cherishes this picture the most in years to come is the one in the womb. Therefore, plan the picture with him or her in mind. It is the earliest shot of his hidden presence.

The most important preplanning is to choose a good photographer wisely. You could record this picture yourself but since this is such a rare occurrence – to be in the thirtieth week of pregnancy – you will probably want the occasion recorded professionally.

Drug abuse and alcoholism in the UK have become major problems and the chances of developing a drug addiction or becoming an alcoholic are constantly increasing. Indeed, a 2007 study by the UK Drugs Policy Commission showed that drug abuse in the UK is of a higher level than anywhere else in Europe and that the UK has the second highest level of drug-related deaths.

Steps2Rehab aim to provide the best private alcohol rehab and drug rehab treatment options available, whatever the individual’s circumstances. They offer free, impartial advice that gets the right help for each person and sets them on the road to a full and healthy recovery.

In-patient alcohol rehabilitation and drug rehabilitation are generally accepted to be the most effective ways to overcome drug addictions and alcohol dependency. A residential alcohol and drug rehab can offer everything needed to get lives back on track, including detox, therapy, life skills, accommodation, catering and complementary therapies. Different rehabilitation clinics offer a variety of treatment programmes that are individually tailored to ensure patients get the best possible treatment for their personal circumstances.

Detoxification (or detox) is primarily the first step towards recovery. As part of a continuing therapy, the alcohol detox and drugs detox process works effectively to remove the substance painlessly from the system in a medically monitored environment. However, undertaken in an unsupervised environment, an alcohol detox and drug detox can also be very dangerous.

Alcohol detox and drug detox alone is unlikely to result in long-term recovery. This is because important psychological work must be completed to help the individual understand their drug addiction or alcohol abuse issues and develop strategies to avoid future relapse. Whilst detox is vital for many individuals, it is not always a necessary step in order to maintain a long-term recovery. In-patient rehab is the crucial element in the overall drug treatment and alcohol treatment process. Steps2Rehab can help by offering free advice and facts about a variety of drug rehab and alcohol rehab clinics both in the UK and overseas, ensuring that the most appropriate route to recovery is chosen.

The online shop may be new, but Ice is a well-known name in the South of England as it already has an established network of high street shops based in Surrey and Sussex.

Iceshops offers some of the latest brands of womenswear at great prices. Among the names that are currently proving extremely popular amongst shoppers, both online and on the high street, are Darling, Sarah Pacini, Great Plains and the always "in fashion" French Connection.

Without doubt the hottest items so far this year have been Darling clothes as some of the dresses in this range have been spotted adorning various celebrities. This has meant that Darling has become one of the hottest labels to be wearing and has resulted in the range rapidly becoming a best seller at www.iceshops.co.uk

Are you a parent who has recently decided that you would like to keep your child safe when they use the internet? If you are, you may want to use internet parental controls. They are one of the best internet safety steps that you can take to protect your child.

As nice as it is to hear that internet parental controls can help to protect your child from danger online, you may be curious as to how they work or how you can get started with them. Although you will find some variances, most parental controls for the internet are free, cheap, and extremely easy to set up.

If you are using Internet Explorer as your internet browser, which most computer users have, you have parental controls that are built right into your computer! How neat is that? To set these parental controls, you will want to open up a new internet window, just like you would when surfing the web. Next, select “Tools,” and then “Internet Options,” from the dropdown menu. A new window will appear and then you can click on the “Content,” tab. Enabling the content advisor will allow you to start protecting your child online.

Although Internet Explorer comes standard on most computers, there are some internet users who use FireFox instead. If you are using FireFox, setting parental controls for the internet isn’t as easy as it is with Internet Explorer. This is because there are not any built-in controls. With that said, they do make it easy for you to get them. The main website for FireFox has links to add-ons that you can easily use and install. Many of these add-ons are free of charge.

AOL is another common internet browser that is used. AOL also has parental controls that are easy for you to use. AOL provides parents, like yourself, with the largest options. In addition to customizing your options, AOL also has preset controls. These controls are based on a child’s age range. Even if you choose to set your own options, these are great guides to follow, especially if you are unfamiliar with computers.

Now that you know you have a number of different options, when looking to get started with parental controls, you may be curious how you can make the most out of them. Some parental controls allow you to set ratings for certain websites and choose levels that you want to accept. For example, Internet Explorer can allow you to block websites that focus on just fighting or you can go higher up and block websites that have blood and gore for content. This option is nice, but it may unintentionally end up blocking some “safe websites.”

A more direct approach to take is to outright block the websites that you don’t want your child to visit. The parental controls that come with Internet Explorer easily allow you to do this. What you will want to do is perform a standard internet search to find these websites. For example, if you want to block social networking websites, perform a standard internet search with the phrase “social networking websites.” Any websites that you find, you can simply just add them to your blocked list.

As you can see, parental controls are easy to install and you have a number of different options. That is why you should get them set as soon as possible.
